Day 4, State 5

Yep, made it through Arkansas and into Oklahoma.  We were on the road by 8 this morning.  It was nice a cool, very little traffic, and clear skies.  And this morning we didn't get lost trying to find I-40, it was about a block from the hotel.

All this made for great riding, and we rode for 6 hours.  by 2ish it was starting to get hot, since the skies were still very clear and the sun was pretty brutal.  While we were spoiled at the very nice Comfort Suites last night, tonight we weren't so lucky.  Back east there are motels at almost every exit, but not in OK.  Here they are only in towns, which, so far, are few and far between.  So, we decided to stop a little early rather than face another 90 minutes of riding.

Which brings us to Henryetta, OK.  A Days Inn looked to be the nicest hotel in town, so we got a room and it's fine.  Clean and cool, but there aren't any extras.  There is a pool, but Sis said it was too cold so she soaked her feet in the bathtub.

Tomorrow we face the same problem, when to stop.  Oklahoma City is less that 100 miles, and the next town of any size looks to be Amarillo, TX which is 350 miles, which is actually what our daily goal.  So we will probably leave early again tomorrow and hope to make it to Amarillo.

See y'all tomorrow...

    1. Good to hear from you. Yes, we are doing great, Mom is holding up very well. It really helps to quit early and not try to cram in too many miles.

  2. Hi - This is Jeanne Iwen, my mom, Anne shared your blog with me as I love to hear about your travel adventures. I have made it to the Grand Canyon 3 times and enjoyed every trip. I see where you are headed to Santa Fe. Mom and I were there 2 summers ago and stayed at a neat hotel on the south side of town. El Rey Inn, check it out on line. It is loaded with character and has lots front door parking on the ground floor. A very private feel even being off the main drag. A beautiful pool, we took a half day tour around town that was fun and informative. Have a good ride and take lots of pictures!

    1. Hi Jeanne. We found a motel with a great hot tub, so we didn't go to the El Rey. But we did ride past it on our way to dinner and it looks very nice. Out motel is a little less expensive, and not quite as nice, but it comes highly rated and the pool and hot tub are great. We plan to go to Chimayo and Taos tomorrow.
